HOW TO: GROW LONG HAIR

“My hair doesn’t grow.”

“My hair always stops at a certain point and won’t grow anymore.”

“What will make my hair grow faster?”

Sound familiar?

The Bad News:  The truth is that hair grows at an average of 1/2″ per month.  That’s only 6″ a year if you get to keep everything that grows, which isn’t a whole lot if you have mermaid [hair goals].

The Good News: There are so many products today that help strengthen the hair and protect it from heat damage so that you CAN keep more of what you grow, which will help you reach your goals faster.  Trims are necessary even though it may feel counterproductive to growing, it’s actually the lesser of two evils.  If the hair is split, it’s going to keep splitting up and you won’t get to decide where it stops.  If you trim the split end off before the split starts to rise then you actually get to keep more of it on your head.  #winning

***My secret to keeping the most length when trimming is to cut dry.  While I’m blow drying the hair, I can assess the damage.  Then I literally just cut what needs to come off.  There’s no guess work or shrinking when the hair dries.  I can’t actually see the split ends when the hair is wet, which can lead to unecessary length being cut.

These are my recommendations to keep your hair healthy so you can continue to grow it longer and longer:

-Trim regularly (about every 2 months) and be consistent.

-Treat your hair once a week with a product that rebuilds the hair fiber.  Two of my favorites are Olaplex No. 3 or f18 Hair Mask.

-Eat enough protein to sustain your hair, and the new growth you want.

-Heat style minimally (skip the flat iron if it’s not a special occasion, a blowout is good enough for everyday hair).

-Always use a heat protector if you blow dry.
