Experiencing Hair Loss Lately?
You’re not alone.
Generally speaking, when it comes to my clients at the studio, I receive a good amount of questions regarding hair loss. It’s a normal part of the aging process, induced and affected by hormonal changes, medications, diet and stress. At some point, I’ve gone through it with every one of my clients for one reason or another. It’s important to understand that your hair changes just as everything else does. It’s current state isn’t a result of it’s current treatment, it’s cumulative. You can’t undo years worth of damage with one haircut just the same as you won’t see results overnight from eating one super high protein meal.
That means it really comes down to habits, or routines. What’s your diet like? Are you restricted in any way that may be causing a deficiency? Keep in mind, that at a very basic level, your body is a machine. No raw materials in, directly translates into nothing to build out of. You need to be eating enough protein for your bodyweight to be able to sustain cell regeneration. If you’ve been experiencing slower hair growth than normal recently, it may be worth it to take a look at your food intake.
Medications that have anything to do with the blood can also have negative effects on the hair. This is a pretty common one, but your health comes first. In the big picture, if you aren’t healthy who cares if you have hair anyway. It really does all start from the inside. Yes genetics do play an enormous role in your hair. But medications can ruin even the strongest, thickest, most resilient, virgin hair. Bad habits can do the same.
Another big contributing factor to hair loss at the moment: COVID. If you’ve gotten Covid-19 don’t be alarmed if you experience more shed than normal 1 to 6 months post virus. Sometimes it can take your body a little while for the trauma to actually be seen. And if you haven’t had the virus, the stress around catching and preventing it is enough to cause hair loss in and of itself.
And finally, we have change of season. On any given year, my clientele experiences a change in their hair with the change of the seasons. While people notice more hair loss in the summer and fall seasons, we don’t know exactly why it happens during those times of year. Researchers speculate that the trend is tied to human evolution. It once made sense for us to shed body hair to keep cool in warmer weather. Not everyone experiences it, or maybe they do, just not to a noticeable degree. But the people who are sensitive to it usually suffer annually.
Personally, in addition to enough sleep, and a high protein diet, I also incorporate a biotin supplement and topical hair rejuvenation serum to keep the hair I have as strong and as thick as possible.
What I use:
Biotin supplement – HUM Hair Sweet Hair Gummies
Topical serum – Grande Hair Serum
