HOW TO: Blow Dry Quick + Easy

First things first, this is not a very in depth hair tutorial.  This is more of a “mini tute” on how you can be done with your hairstyle in about 15 MINUTES from out of the shower to dry.  A good candidate for this tutorial might be your kid, when you have to blowdry hair after bath time and you don’t have all night (attention spans are also limited, let’s be honest).

As far as easy hairstyles go, this is my “best-blowout-in the-shortest-amount-of time with 1- product-and-1-brush basic LIFE SKILL blowout tutorial”.  It’s a “how to” from [wet] to —-> [dry + styled] in 15 mins. flat, and I’m talking a blowout with 2-3 days longevity, so not a bad return on your time investment either.  ðŸ˜‰

After shampooing and conditioning, comb out tangles with a WETBRUSH.  This is the best brush for detangling and blow drying (it’s LIFE CHANGING, lightweight, multi-purpose and effective and it’s meant to detangle and add shine when blow drying… what else could you ask for in one super affordable brush?).  Now distribute a leave-in conditioner from mids to ends.  You want something that will aid in detangling, and offer some heat protection while moisturizing and adding shine all in one step… and a little color/UV protection never hurts.  A great blowout spray to try that offers all this in one is the Oribe Royal Blowout Heat Styling Spray and  another great one is the REVLON Unique One.  This would NOT a good time to use a product that has a lot of grip or hold to it because you want the brush to be able to glide easily through the hair.  So skip the mousse or gel right now, if that’s all you have, because you want a silky smooth result in this case.

Begin with the hairdryer on LOW.  On my Dyson Blow Dryer that I’m using in my video,  the heat setting is on HIGH, but the air flow is on LOW.  This gives you a little more time to control the hair.

Start your blowout at the front hairline.  In order to give yourself the best blowout possible in the least amount of time, you need to focus on the part that matters the most – AROUND YOUR FACE.  You want to draw an imaginary line from your left ear over the top of your head to your right ear, basically dividing your hair in half.  I want you to focus on just the first 2-3 inches from the root.  Taking the front as one BIG section, using a wrapping technique, direct hair down and across your forehead, concentrating on the roots, to the left and then right, and back and forth as many times as you need to until it’s 95% dry.  Start with your first pass going in the opposite direction of the way you wear it.  DO NOT LIFT the hair around the hairline.  Instead, place the brush on top of the hair and follow with the blow dryer aiming down towards the ends.  When roots are dry, place the entire section on top of the brush, blow it straight down over your nose, pointing the nozzle towards the ends slowly moving down until the ends are polished and fall off the brush.  Congratulations! The hardest part is done, and the rest is gravy.

Now that the front is dry and smooth, I want you to rough dry everything behind the ears with your fingers until it’s about 95% dry.  Using your brush, pass over each section once or twice following the brush with the blow dryer about 2 inches away, concentrating on the mids and ends, until they are smooth.  You are just going in with your brush from the underneath and letting the hair fall on top organically, no sectioning.  Lastly use your fingers and your blow dryer to marry the front and back sections of your hair and you’re all done!

It really is that QUICK + EASY.  The focus of this blowdry tutorial is on the front hairline.  Getting all those little baby hairs and cowlicks to lay smooth with the wrapping technique is key.  You don’t want to lift any of the hair in front at first… that would encourage the cowlicks to pop up.  Instead, stretch the hair out across your forehead the way you would a shirt on an ironing board.  Use your forehead as resistance.  Really make sure you are brushing through the temples, right to left and left to right, to straighten any little baby hairs that won’t be long enough to catch when you lift up the section with the brush.

Happy Blow Drying! (and if this isn’t the easiest blowout you ever do, there’s always keratin treatments available to make the blow drying torture easier lol)
