IF YOU MUST SWIM WITH YOUR HAIR EXTENSIONS – READ THIS FIRST!

Salt water, chlorine water, and staying wet for long periods of time are all no-no’s when it comes to properly maintaining your hair extensions.

With that being said, IF YOU MUST SWIM WITH YOUR HAIR EXTENSIONS, there is a specific protocol to follow to protect your investment as best you can.  THIS is NOT recommended.  This is a last resort ONLY.

– Before going in, saturate your hair fully with fresh water.

– Apply a generous amount of hair oil or serum.

– Braid your hair into 2 tight braids and secure with little elastics from top to bottom every 2 inches.

– Brush with a wet brush and detangling spray BEFORE shampooing.  Then shampoo with a moisturizing shampoo and apply a hydrating or repairing mask.

– Dry your extensions thoroughly and apply more hair oil or serum.

*** I’m not going to say I’ve never been swimming with my hair extensions, but I take every precaution possible.  This is how I prepare my hair for when I go scuba diving.  Again, it’s not the best thing for your extensions and it does compromise them to some extent.  I don’t recommend doing this if you want to get the full 8-10 months out of your hair extensions, but as a last resort, these are the steps I follow.
