Satin Essentials Checklist for Perfect Hair

1. Satin/Silk Pillowcase – no matter the texture of your hair or style you wear it in, a satin pillowcase will save your hair from so much unnecessary friction that can weaken it and cause it to tear.    Colored hair has an open cuticle that catches on cotton fibers and when you toss and turn, that’s enough to break the hair.  The cotton is also literally sucking the moisture out of your hair and skin.  (trust me, I know it’s annoying when your pillowcases don’t match your sheets but this is totally worth it in the long run) – I love these pillowcases from Amazon, they’re 100% mulberry silk and they have a little zipper, and I’ve thrown them in the washer and dryer so many times and they really hold up but are super soft.

2. Satin ScrunchieHeadband – I sleep with my hair in one of 3 ways; Sleepy Tie most of the time to preserve my bouncy blowout, a satin scrunchie low ponytail if it’s blown out straight, or a heatless curls headband to give it a lot of curl and volume.  My hair is always prepped for sleeping no matter which way I have it styled so that I wake up with the style intact, and I don’t need to put heat on my hair again the next day.  It also makes my morning routine a little quicker which everyone knows I need.

3. Satin Sleep Cap or Sleep Scarf – This goes OVER # 2.  One literally looks like a beanie hat with a satin lining on the inside and has an adjustable strap to fit it to your head, and the other is more of a satin scarf with long ties on either side and your hair hangs down in the back.  I put my cap or scarf over my sleepy tie or heatless curls headband and that really holds the style and prevents any little hairs from falling down or getting knocked out of the curl shape while I’m sleeping and tossing and turning.

You spend half your life sleeping so it’s important to take care of your hair before bed.
